IRC
We (semi-)regularly hold IRC chats to talk about ARG stuff, and discuss ideas for what the SIG should be doing.
If you want to join in, it's free and easy:
HOW TO GET ON IRC
You have three options:
- Click here to join the chat directly (no setup required!)
- Install an IRC client, and manually connect to a server
- Use a Simple Web Client (minimal setup, several options)
Option 2: Install an IRC client
For those of us who may not be familiar with IRC, you first need to download a client. Good ones include:
- Windows: mIRC (http://www.mirc.org/)
- OS X: Colloquy (http://colloquy.info/downloads.html).
- ...or there's a plugin for Firefox to add IRC: ChatZilla (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/16)
- ...or you can use a web-client directly in your web-browser, see below ("Simple Web Client")
Connect to the server
When you have it downloaded and installed, you will need to connect to a server. Ours is:
irc.chat-solutions.org
The port you will need is the default, 6667. Once you have a connection to the server, you need to join the SIG chat channel, which is:
#arg_sig
(including the pound sign, it's important)
Option 3: Simple Web Client
There's a couple of web-based clients.
(EXPERIMENTAL) Mibbit client
We've only briefly tested it, but it seems the best so far. No setup required, just click the link below, choose a nickname for yourself, and go!
http://embed.mibbit.com/?server=irc.chat-solutions.org&channel=%23arg_sig
(IMPROVED) Chat Solutions client
- Open a new window and go to this address: http://www.chat-solutions.org/chat/unfiction.html
- Once you're connected, type "/join #arg_sig" (no quotes) to join our chat
- (optional) then type "/nick YOURNAME" (no quotes) to change the name everyone else sees when you speak
(ORIGINAL) Unfiction client
You may also use the Unfiction applet here:
http://www.unfiction.com/chat/
Just make sure to input #arg_sig into the channel field, plus your name & etc.
Troubleshooting
If you've never used IRC before and you're a little worried, I'd encourage you to try it out ahead of time, it won't hurt anything. :)
And feel free to email the SIG admins - arg_sig@igda.org - if you're having trouble getting everything all set up
