II. Chapter Activity Status

Based on feedback from your quarterly chapter check‐ups, the IGDA will assign one of the following activity levels to your chapter:

  1. Start Up: A recently established chapter that has yet to hold its first meeting is considered a start‐up. Report your first meeting in your chapter check‐up to be officially listed as active.
  2. Active: Chapters must meet at least once per quarter (no less than 4 meetings per year) to retain “active” status. At the same time, we recommend that chapters meet no more than 6‐8 times per year to avoid burnout. Chapters tend to start successfully, but after several consecutive monthly meetings, volunteers and attendees begin to lose interest. Staggering meetings to at least every other month helps keep everyone involved and excited about your chapter’s activities. You will eventually determine the frequency that suits your community and your volunteers’ bandwidth.
  3. Dormant: Failure to hold 4 meetings per year (i.e., at least 1 meeting per quarter) will downgrade your chapter to dormant status. We will work with you to bring the chapter back to active status, and may appoint a new Chapter Leader and/or find more volunteers to help out.

A. Chapter Revocation

The IGDA may revoke a chapter's charter if it deems the chapter’s activity to be less than satisfactory. Possible reasons include poor meeting consistency, failure to follow chapter policies, insufficient chapter reporting to the association, and inability to serve local game developers.

Chapter charter revocation will be the IGDA’s last resort for chapters that are struggling to remain active. The IGDA will make every possible effort to provide aid and counsel to struggling chapters, and coordinators are encouraged to contact the association as early as possible with any problems or concerns.
