Chapter/Guide/Policies/NON‐RECRUITMENT POLICY
International Game Developers Association
VI. Non‐Recruitment Policy
Avoid overt recruitment related activities. Chapters are urged not to post job listings on their website or in meeting announcements, nor accept sponsorship money in exchange for blatant recruitment announcements.
IGDA chapters succeed by providing a safe place for developers to meet. Studios will not support employees’ participation in chapters if they perceive chapter meetings as potential job‐poaching events. Attendees likely will make job connections at meetings as that is the nature of networking, but recruitment should not be the focus of any chapter activities. Hosting a separate “job fair” can work if done with input and support from all the local studios.
You may accept sponsorship from companies whose goal is recruitment, but you must inform them that they cannot pitch jobs or discuss hiring directly. Instead, they can share basic information about the company and its projects, and perhaps make an innocuous announcement such as “If you’d like to learn more, come talk to me…”. Try to avoid creating the perception of your chapter as a meat market.
