This page is for brainstorms, ideas, suggestions and information relevant to the second IGDA Preservation SIG White Paper. The description has been put forward as:

The next step is laying out the best methods for preserving digital games and related archives, letting developers know how their companies can help during the production process, and providing working practices for both archives and companies. While museums and archives can hold some material, much of it will be retained by companies and individuals who should know the best way to store physical materials and software to keep these materials safe and secure for the future. Therefore, our next white paper will focus on how you can preserve what you own. This will benefit companies that hold copies of all their games and documentation materials and need help in managing them for long-term preservation.

Some basic categories to get started, feel free to add or suggest more:

  • Contributors - please add your name and affiliation here if you would like to make a substantial contribution to editing of white paper drafts, i.e., join the editorial committee.
  • Core Concepts - Suggestions and thoughts on the main concepts and themes of the White Paper. Please put your name down with a particular concept or theme, if that is where you would like to focus your effort. We may break up the project and proceed in sub-groups devoted to particular themes.
  • Compelling Examples -- identify and describe cases that show good or bad practices of preservation, in games and other areas.
