Game Writers SIG/Initiatives/Writer Internships
International Game Developers Association
The Internships initiative was proposed during the February 25, 2009 committee meeting as a result of discussions about getting new blood into the industry. It is proposed that the SIG should take the bold step of setting up its own fledgling internship program "to help companies get the idea, and help writers get the internships." This initiative is the first step.
Proposed directions
The initiative will involve promoting the idea of hiring writer interns, which they have never considered doing before, even though they hire game design interns.
The initiative will also involve promoting the idea of looking for internships to young writers, as well as outreach to educational institutions (such as colleges with writing programs).
Current status
This initiative is a young orphan that has yet to be adopted by someone willing to direct it.
