Biography

I got a call this evening from Mike McLaughlin. He told me that Scott Heckenlively has passed away and there was an obit in the newspaper today. He was a noted computer game artist and a local favorite with the fan community. He adored his new family and always had great things to say about them. He was a good friend.

We were for a brief time coworkers along with Mike, and Mark at Accolade. He was the sort of coworker you wanted to have your cube next too, go to lunch with. He loved art, illustration and was always curious about the nature of things.

He had only words of support for me when Dann and I were putting Silicon together. I found the e-mails he sent me after one SiliCon. He said so many good things that I had to close it up. Can't write this and cry at the same time. Time and circumstances made it impossible to stay closer connected. Conventions were the only times we could get together.

I was so happy to buy one of his prints from SiliCon's art show and he scolded me. Saying he would have given me the print. I told him it was the principle of the thing and I should buy it. Anyway, I could always get an original from him, later. He chuffed at me and smiled. That was our last conversation.

This SiliCon will be a little sad knowing he won't be there but still expecting him to show. He will be missed.
