Next call
Third Wednesday of the month, July 15, 2009, 4 p.m. EST
Minutes
- Review of new skin of IGDA site, at test.igda.org. Discussion of where the SIG should "live", at wiki, wordpress blog, new IGDA site, etc.
- Blog preliminary version up: http://igdaonline.wordpress.com/ Discussion of whether we can get it hosted off the IGDA site. Erin has sent email with questions but not received a reply back yet.
- Discussion on which blog feeds to aggregate: General purpose, everything to do with online, or focus on specific articles? Concerns that aggregating too many blogs could make feed too busy. Erin volunteered to be general oversight editor, to pare the feed back to manageable levels. Discussion of how to invite guest bloggers.
- Calendar of upcoming conferences created at http://www.igda.org/online by Jeremy Nusser :) Discussion of whether we can get it ported to new IGDA website
- LinkedIn group, discussion of how to use/focus it, and publicize it
- Debate on whether focus of group should be on MMOs & online worlds/PSWs, or more general "online games" umbrella including MMOs, social-networking games, console games with online components, iPhone, Facebook, etc. Straw poll is leaning towards general umbrella, but there is not a clear consensus.
- Preliminary planning for IGDA gathering at Austin game conference
- Will create poll to get opinions from IGDA members and others on what the SIG should be doing, though there are concerns on whether poll data will be representative, and how to driver traffic to the poll. Would be nice to have metrics on visitors to existing site.
Action items
- Check if blog can be hosted on new IGDA site (Erin)
- Create calendar of upcoming conferences on new website (Jeremy)
- Create concept art for Online Games SIG icon (Anthony)
- Create draft poll in wiki (Anthony)
- Plan gathering at Austin conference (Anthony)
