Research Topics and Questions:
Accessible Game Design & Development There are many different disabilities and many different types of games. How can we make games more accessible or how can existing game interfaces be made more accessible?
Ongoing Research Projects:
- A one button FPS ( Eelke Folmer)
- A one button RTS ( Eelke Folmer)
- audio client for Secondlife ( Eelke Folmer)
- text interface for Secondlife ( Eelke Folmer)
- A one button 'Tetris'-like action puzzle game (Richard Van Tol)
Design of a proof-of-concept/prototype of a Tetris-like puzzle game that can be controlled with one button. Research focuses on comparing different interaction techniques in order to formulate game accessibility design parameters as well as design patterns for one button interaction techniques.
- A one button 'Arkenoid'-like arcade game (Richard Van Tol)
Design of a proof-of-concept/prototype of a Arkenoid-like game that can be controlled with one button. Research focuses on comparing different interaction techniques in order to formulate game accessibility design parameters as well as design patterns for one button interaction techniques.
- A one button platform game (Richard Van Tol)
Design of a proof-of-concept/prototype of a 2D platform game that can be controlled with one button. Research focuses on comparing different interaction techniques in order to formulate game accessibility design parameters as well as design patterns for one button interaction techniques.
- Accessible Through Emulation (ATE) Arcade (Barrie Ellis & William Pilgrim)
Project focusing on making past games more accessible to physically disabled gamers through Emulation and a range of utilities including some new bespoke ones. Link: http://www.oneswitch.org.uk/2/ATEarcade/ATE.htm
