The Wikipedia Initiative was launched by Elonka Dunin at GDC 2006, as a coordinated project between the Online Games SIG, the Game Writers SIG, the Credit Standards Committee, and other interested volunteers.

Mission statement
The goal of the IGDA Wikipedia Initiative is to identify those IGDA game developers who are notable enough to have biographies on Wikipedia, who either do not yet have such a biography, or whose bio needs to be expanded, and to create or expand those biographies as appropriate.

If you are reading this, chances are that you have one of the following questions in your mind:
- Is there already a Wikipedia bio for <fill in name>?
- Best way to find out, is to go search. Try google, like search on "John Smith site:en.wikipedia.org"
- There isn't one yet. How do I make sure that a page is created for <fill in name>?
- Add the name to the list further down on this page
- What are the requirements for having a bio on Wikipedia?
- The main one is "Notability". In order to have a bio, someone has to be relatively famous. The "How famous is famous" question deserves a whole separate page, so check here: /Wikipedia notability guidelines
- I want to help out, where should I start?
- Pick one of the "bios to be expanded", go to their Wikipedia page, and start adding stuff to it. Easiest is to first check that their "list of works" has their most famous games listed. Also look around via Google for articles about them, or any awards that they've won. For more details on this, check this page: /Wikipedia references.
